Today: When God picks you
Passage: Eph 4
11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Eph 4, NIV)
It was he (God) who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets……….
Without knowing what ministry God has called me for, how I can I choose one?
Why is there such a lack of teachers in our churches today?
I will tell you why. To be a teacher, one has to become a student first. That is hard and demanding. You need to spend much time studying the word and praying. Teachers don’t get much “credit” as opposed to “Pastors” and “Prophets”
We want the fast-food type titles which can give us quick recognition
So, the church becomes “the lean-mean” thing and some of these “professionals” become fat and thick
Sometimes we get phone calls from “visiting” Pastors and “Prophets”
Some of them come here very often and gather as much (money, not souls) as they can. It is so hard to see genuine ones. May be 10%…
The first and foremost thing that should happen in the life of a minister is to have a personal, one-on-one sitting with God
Isaiah had that (revelation) experience. God dealt with his tongue/lips
The calling for ministry is a painful one. There is something we need to sacrifice
When God called Moses, he was not comfortable; same with Jonah. It was not another opportunity to make some extra bucks!
When Peter was called to minister to the gentiles, he did not even understand it
He could not understand the vision that God showed him (Acts 10)
When God opens doors for you, it may not be one that you will feel very “comfortable” or promising. In most cases, you take a step down. People might not say “good job!”. They might say just the opposite
Paul’s letters to Timothy were his encouragement for a spiritual son of his
Timothy took the challenge. God was with him. God blessed Timothy
We need to sit at the master’s feet and understand our calling
We can all study the word and become a Teacher of the word, starting right within our homes. There is so much of “ignorance and illiteracy” of the word among us
