The speech-style that pleases God

Welcome!

Today: The speech-style that pleases God

Passage: Eph 5

4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a man is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.[a] 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them. (Eph 5, NIV) – emphasis added

Words have power to influence you for good or bad. God uses His words to influence you for good, while satan does the opposite

Many sincere people have been “trapped” by others who approached them with deception and cunningness.

There are people who will say good about you, knowing that it works for (their) good. If we don’t have discernment to know their intention, we can be trapped

Apostle Paul warns to stay away from people who speak empty words

“Empty” words look like they have some stuff inside, but they come from “empty” hearts and will not give you anything good.

If you eat egg, you get the good out of it. But if someone left the shell of an egg after squeezing out everything inside it, all you get is the “air”.

If preachers are “empty”, they preach “empty” sermons

People come empty, they go back empty. Such people speak empty words as well

When we read/hear the word of God, we hear words that have weight in it; words that change/encourage/build others

God’s word is never empty; it is packed with power and goodness

The best treatment to get out of empty words or filthy talks, is to read the Bible, especially proverbs.

Paul warns to stay away from people who speak empty/filthy language

If you have some friends who always speak bad things, better stay away from them or talk to them about how our own words can bring us blessing/curse

Some go around sharing how bad people in their own family are. It may be the fact, but when we share such things with others, satan will take the advantage.

5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. (Col 4, NIV)

Have a blessed, wonderful day!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, word of God, I thank you for who you are. Help me fill my heart with your word so that no evil word will come out of me, only word that bless and build others will come from me. Amen.
