Children of God

Welcome!

Passage:Ephesians 6

Today: Children of God

Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord,[a] for this is the right thing to do. 2 “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: 3 If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”[b] (Eph 6, NLT)

You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. 2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred.  (2 Tim 3, NLT)

Few years back, in a dedication service for a baby, the dad who is also a Pastor,  was telling  how much time our children spent outside home every day. Once children leave home in the morning, we get them back only in the evening. Normally,  school/teachers have them during the day. We have them only in the early morning and night and then weekends

The time we live is such that more and more people ignore the word of God, even yield to the “trends” around; but it adds more struggles, by ignoring the teachings of the Bible; when parents get “too busy” to lead and read the scripture to the children and to themselves, they have to deal with too many issues

Media, friends as well as school has big influence on the children

One day, one parent was telling me how the child’s attitude changed between  morning and evening, all because of one statement/act of the teacher!

The antidote for this growing problem is the word of God; parents, Sunday school teachers and pastors can do something; make sure Sunday school teachers are truly born again and that they teach things right (all are not!)

Many children born in Christian homes do not have a personal relationship with Christ (!); they go to church with parents, may even take baptism and all, but many don’t have a personal experience or an encounter with God. This is seriously true!

In the scripture from Eph 6, Paul is basically telling the believers to apply their faith in God to all areas and into their homes/relationships. God is not only concerned about our relationship to Him, but also about our relationship to each other. One of the areas most parents fail, is in praying for and with their children. Our children need our prayer very much; if not, they will struggle a lot more

Also, read scripture portions with them whenever you can. There are 31 chapters in proverbs, one per day of the month. Parents need to do some “homework” to find the right scripture for them and give them that, to read. They can also read daily devotions like “our daily bread”, on tablets/computers as well

Have a blessed day!

Prayer: Lord, help us to train up our children in the way they should go, so that they will not leave you, as they grow up (Prov 22:6) Teach us Lord, to give them the right scripture portions, just like we give them the right meal portions. Amen

Ministry for God starts at home; ignoring that will hurt you big, in the end!
