Praise Him in the storm!

Welcome!

Passage:  Mark 4 (NIV 84)

Today: Praise Him in the storm!

. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”  (Mark 4, NIV 84) emphasis added

During the hurricane season, people gather food, water and other stuff but that’s not everybody. Many people are without jobs, cannot afford to buy food and stuff. This is where the courage and love of the church needs to work. Many will need various types of help and there should be people of God helping others

In the familiar passage above, we see Jesus calming the storm. He spoke about their lack of faith. In the storms of life, we get scared, even while calling ourselves believers. It is important to trust the same God we trust when the weather is O.K, even when it is not!

When God allows storms in life, we can ask God about the “why”, “how” to get through, and “what” after the storm

I remember, visiting a man of God going through a certain “storm” in life, I was just thinking: storms don’t last for ever; but as they come, we need much grace (of God) to go through it. Many have failed in the storm, not because of the storm itself, but because of the way they handled it, because of fear, frustration, anxiety etc. Those who can handle it calmly and wisely, make it!

When the news media interview people living in mobile homes etc. in areas where people are asked to evacuate, some of them say, “I will just stay here; I will not go anywhere”. They are determined. But such feelings based on former (storm) experiences may not work. Each storm is different!

Those who trust in God need to ask God for specific directions, for each “storm” in life is different. This one may need to be handled differently.

4 Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. (Josh 3, NIV 84)

God is the one who makes highways in the ocean; all we can do in the storms of life is to look unto Him and cry. If anyone has the answer, it is God first!

Have a blessed day!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to face and overcome the storms in my life; on my own, I cannot, but with you, I can. You are the Lord over my life and everything in my life, for nothing just happens! I pray for others going through similar situations and I ask your help and guidance for them as well. I pray that you will forgive the people their sins and have mercy on them, Lord. Amen

“It is one thing to sing “God is good all the time” when everything is O.K; it is quite another to say the same, in the middle of the storm!
