“Make it my way” vs. ”have it thy way, Lord”

Welcome!

Passage:  Gen 11 (NIV 84) Exodus 32 (NIV 84)

Today: “Make it my way” vs. ”have it thy way, Lord”

11 As men moved eastward,[a] they found a plain in Shinar[b] and settled there. 3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”  (Gen 11, NIV 84)-emphasis added

32 When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods[a] who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.” Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2 Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.” 3 So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. 4 He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, “These are your gods,[b] O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.” (Ex 32, NIV 84)-emphasis added

A city-tower and a golden calf; two separate incidents/acts of men that triggered God into action!

These are the two major things people are looking for, even today: a place to live and a place to worship. The problem is, God’s involvement is the least!

See what they were talking about Moses: “this fellow Moses” (?)

Such statements come when one of the two loose their vision- either the leader or the people. God will support the one who holds on to the vision

God was with Moses, to lead the people throughout their wilderness journey

These days, there are many “Aarons” out there who will “make” the kind of “god” that people need! When people want a God who will bless them with all material blessings regardless of how they live, these “Aarons” will “custom-make” a “god”, with their words and lifestyle.

The message of God has to be preached as God wants it to be preached

8 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt[a] in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: (John 16, NIV 84)

The Holy Spirit speaks through men of God, about sin, judgement and righteousness. He is the comforting God as well. He speaks of grace and truth!

Let us not be cheated by those who preach only half the gospel, whether it be grace alone or truth alone. Jesus is full of grace and truth!

Follow the  word of God, if you want to reach the God of the word

Many are getting rich in the name of Jesus and in the name of many others who died

When the master comes, He judges by His word, and not by anybody else’s word

Have a blessed day!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank you for your sacrifice. You are my role-model of sacrifice, in a world where many are “selling” you and becoming rich in all areas but spiritual. Help me experience the fullness of your spiritual blessings; Amen
