What are you doing, dad?

Welcome!

Passage:  Hebrews 3 (NIV 1984)

Today: What are you doing, dad?

3 Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. (Heb 3, NIV 84, NASB)

The author of Hebrews is exhorting the children of God to focus on Jesus

When a student is all focussed on the goal of achieving a certain merit/rank, their entire life and activities change

They stay away from many things others enjoy. They don’t ask “why” or ‘why not?” like others. They know what their goal is, and just want to achieve that

When we see lot of fights and disputes in the “spiritual arena”, one thing is clear: many of our people have no idea where they are going or what they are doing. They don’t have any goal.  Only few are focussed on Jesus; majority are looking elsewhere!

At the same time, we see a few, really few, who does not care about all the bad stuff going on; they are all focussed on Jesus, living a life that pleases God; praying, reading the word and witnessing to others

Satan is tricky. He just wants to distract God’s children from Jesus

That is why Paul once asked Galatians this question, which applies to us:

You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. 2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?  (Gal 3, NIV 84)

Satan succesfully blinded our eyes from the things of God. Once we are blind, we need someone to guide us by our hand. Many people don’t know that the very person holding their hand and taking them around, is Satan!

God wants us to know the hope of His calling, our inheritance in Him and the exceeding power of God available to us. But we are about silly things! (Eph 1:17-20)

The other day, I saw a little funny picture some where. The son says he is studying aeronautical engg;, but inside his room, he is making paper arrows and shooting them somewhere, which is what his “engineering” is all about!

When we see so called “mature” people making “paper arrows” and shooting at each other,  children are wondering…”what in the world is daddy doing….?”

It is time to do that which makes sense to God (and others)

Before we blame our younger generation, let us get ourselves straight!

Along the way, if we left Jesus somewhere, it is time to go back and join Him

Remember the old word “REPENT”? (many of us forgot that!)

Have a blessed day of re-orienting ourselves and coming back to Him!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for being our role model! Even as we ran away from you many times, you came after us. We wasted a lot of time doing stuff you never wanted us to do, forgetting all you did for us. Sorry Lord. Love you Jesus. Amen

A true soldier cannot afford to get distracted from his/her goal; it can cost them their very life and even more!
