When trash becomes a treasure!

Welcome!

Today: When trash becomes a treasure!

Passage: 1 Peter 2

4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2, NIV) – emphasis added

Here in the US, people give away things they don’t need anymore

They either take it to a “thrift shop” run by Salvation Army or some other organizations like that; or, they call such people and they will come and pick it up

Yet, the usual way is to keep those “unwanted” items (like furniture) outside the house by the side-walk, and someone (who needs it) will pick it up!

Sometimes it could be a very good painting that someone throws out; another person who values it much, will cherish it like a treasure!

That is how one man’s trash becomes another man’s treasure!

In the verses above, Peter talks of Jesus Christ as a “stone” that was rejected by men, but precious to God. When Jesus came into the world, “his own” could not identify Him! So they despised and rejected Him

It is not easy to identify a small Jewel among pieces of broken glass. Someone will easily sweep it away along with the glass pieces and put it all in the trash!

For the people of Jesus’ time, He was just an ordinary person, a carpenter’s son

They didn’t even know that He was born of God! They called Him “son of Joseph”!

The world doesn’t know the difference it makes, with someone born (again) of God!

If you are a child of God, you are precious to God, but the  world may treat you “cheap”!

By the same token, things highly esteemed by the world are of “no value” to God! (Lk 16:15)

The word of God tells us about what is really going to happen to the world; every day, we see incidents that prove that the word of God is true. But for the world, the word of God is “foolishness”. To those who are saved, it is the power of God (1 Cor 1:18). We are saved from the penalty of sin, being saved from its power and finally, will be saved from the presence of sin (as we leave here and join with God!)

The word of God is power-packed.

Jesus drove the devil away with quotes from the scripture, from the O.T!

There are some who say that the Old Testament is obsolete. The devil likes to hear that. Satan likes people who believe  half the truth, than those who don’t ! Satan likes luke-warms than the “cold” ones!

Unfortunately, satan likes many of us more than the unsaved!

Who is this Jesus to us? Isn’t He like a “rejected stone” even in our own lives?

How important is God’s word to us? Is it only on Sundays we pick it up?

(Some forget to take the dust off their Bibles even on a Sunday! So they keep their Bibles at home and come to church)

Read the word and stay blessed; be alive and powerful!

Amen!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I am sorry for disregarding you-the most important person in my life. I did it because everything was going nice and well, even without prayer and reading of the word; but I was seriously wrong. Help me treat you right. Amen

“God doesn’t expect you to give Him more (value) than what He deserves!”
