Holiness first, worship next

 Welcome!

Today: Holiness first, worship next

Passage: 1 Sam 15

13 When Samuel reached him, Saul said, “The LORD bless you! I have carried out the LORD’s instructions.” 14 But Samuel said, “What then is this bleating of sheep in my ears? What is this lowing of cattle that I hear?” 15 Saul answered, “The soldiers brought them from the Amalekites; they spared the best of the sheep and cattle to sacrifice to the LORD your God, but we totally destroyed the rest.”  (1 Sam 15, NIV)

After Saul defeated the Amalekites, Samuel went to meet Saul and Saul gave a big “praise the Lord” salute!

But Samuel was very different from most prophets we see around us today

Saul thought he could “cover-up” his disobedience of keeping the best of Amalekites for himself, by saying some “praise” words to the man of God

Samuel scolded Saul straight on his face. He didn’t care about an “offering” or tip  from Saul. Instead, his question was, “What then is this bleating of sheep in my ears? What is this lowing of cattle that I hear?”

That was the noise of all that Saul had “stolen” from Amalekites

Literally speaking, he did not steal anything. He only had the plunder of the war

But when you keep what God does not want you to keep, that is “stolen” stuff

Anytime we look at the worship in heaven, whether in Isaiah 6 or in Revelation 4-6, we see the heavenly beings worshipping God saying “Holy, Holy, Holy”

We have lot of “praise and worship” going on around us. But if you speak to them about  “holiness”,  many of them will look at you like “from which planet you came?”

One morning, God spoke to me this:

Holiness is most important when worshipping God. May be it is only just before Holy Communion that we hear all that “scary” talk about holiness.

Anytime we worship God, the same type of holiness is required by God!

If holiness is in our heart, it will be reflected in our outward appearance as well!

In heaven, they cover their body properly and worship (Isaiah 6)

I used to dislike the choir uniform in many churches; but I then, there is a reason they came up with something like that!

Isaiah got scared of his own sinfulness, when he saw the worship in heaven

Why is it that many sit in worship like in a movie theatre?

When many of us adults “act” holiness, our children have no idea what holiness is!

We better learn it first so that we can teach them what it is

It is God’s command to be holy. First holiness, then worship

God bless your day!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, you are holy God. When I say “I love you” and “I praise and worship you”, I know it doesn’t make any sense to you if I am still in sin and have not confessed/repented. With your help, I can live holy, so help me Lord. Amen

“When we see God as He is, we will see sin as He sees it”
