The “good” and “bad” of Anger!

Today: The “good” and “bad” of Anger!

Passage: Eph 4

26 “In your anger do not sin”[d]: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. (Eph 4, NIV)-emphasis added

Apostle Paul understands that we may get angry at times, but that we can avoid sinning, even while angry. The emotion of anger, in itself need not be sinful

When Jesus got to the temple at Jerusalem and saw all that was going on there, He became angry. What Jesus did there was symbolic of the coming judgment.

That is what God is going to do on the Day of Judgment.

But then, many people have lost their important blessings by letting their anger “speak” in full volume. Most angry people attack others verbally, some even physically!

Some others handle their anger is by suppressing their emotions. They pile up all the anger within and hide it, but never forgive or forget it.

But there is a third group who will forgive and even forget, as much as they can!

We must learn to move on with life, instead of staying in one place-whether it is anger or discouragement or any other emotions we are going through

If we don’t get emotions under control, we will be the victims of our own emotions

Apostle Paul says, “do not sin”. It doesn’t mean just “keep quiet”. Sometimes we speak out, when we see something bad/wrong. But we must be careful to speak the truth- in love

You can win an argument and loose a person

That is what is happening in many cases. I have seen people winning arguments on behalf of their faith and losing the other person. Defending the gospel is important, as long as it is done in sincere love.

Very often, we feel that we get angry for the right reason, and go too far. Many churches have been divided because someone went too far, establishing what seemed “right” for them. Some parents have “lost” their children because they insisted too much on what seemed “right” for them. Many husbands “lost” wives and wives “lost” husbands, for the same reason

Was it worth going that far?

In most cases, “No”. People fail to identify the tricks of the devil!

Sometimes it is better to “loose“ the argument and win the person

At a later time, we can prove ourselves, not loosing the person

God bless

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to take control of my emotions and to be a person who speaks the truth in love; to speak when I have to, and to keep quiet when I have to. Help me to share the grace and love I received, with others. Amen
