Today: Life without “life”!
Passage: 2 Kings 2
19 The men of the city said to Elisha, “Look, our lord, this town is well situated, as you can see, but the water is bad and the land is unproductive.” (2 Kings 2, NIV84)
The other day, as one of the young brothers in church was sharing from this, it just “woke me“ up
After Elijah was taken up, Elisha started his lone journey in the Lord
Then came up this issue before Elisha. It was not about an individual or a family, but about a city! However, Elisha accepted it. He had the answer, through God!
Isn’t this a picture of many cities/families/churches today?
There is a big name for the city. It is known for its best location. But the water is not good, and the city is infertile. In short, there is no “life” there!
All living things need water to survive. In a way, water is life.
Is there “water” in the church? Are people living or dying spiritually?
Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well, about the water of life
She had so many things to boast about, but had a “stinking” past and a heart of no peace or satisfaction. Jesus looked at her inside, and was able to diagnose her situation. He healed her “dead” inner person, her soul.
The more we feed on the word and the spirit of God, we get more life and we can give life to many
If we are aware of any “dead” areas in our life where we are struggling to find some answer, bring it to Jesus. If it is family issue, Jesus can still work.
Jesus once came to a fig tree which had a lot of leaves. He expected some fruit but it had none. Jesus cursed the tree and it dried
If Jesus comes to us, will He find any fruit? Do we even care about bearing some fruit for Jesus?
A tree never eats its own fruit; the fruit is for others. We must be channels of living water as well as spiritual fruit to others
If all that we care about is our own personal benefits and blessings, we are just like the most people out there-we have nothing to give!
There is a greater need out there. Many are “dying” without the water of life
Jesus said: 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” (John 7:38, NIV)
Instead of just being the “end users” of all blessings, we can become channels of blessings to others. Isn’t that a good thing?
Have a blessed day!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, that was me. Even while many things in my life look good, there are areas that are stinking, those that need a touch from you. I know that you want me to be a channel of life to many, and I need your help. Amen
If we go on ignoring the “sick” areas in life, we may get “stuck” somewhere
