Called for a reason, a purpose

Welcome!

Today: Called for a reason, a purpose

Passage: Gen 2, Eph 2

15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.” (Gen 2, NIV)

I had a childhood friend, who was very active. He was never found sitting idle. After his Engineering degree, he joined the Navy and is in a good position

If you look at Jesus, He never wasted a second. He was always active, doing something. When He was not doing the ministry, you could find Him praying or teaching the disciples or something like that. He rarely took rest

How busy are we, with God’s stuff?

God does not want His children to be idle. He wants them active

God gave enough work for Adam (and Eve) to do. They were kept very busy

They had to work (work is not a curse) and take care of God’s garden

See what is expected of us, as recorded in the New Testament;

10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Eph 2, NIV)-emphasis added

We were created to do “good works”, not to just go to church on Sunday, to warm up the seats! We are part of Christ’s living body. We are also living stones

A living body will grow and will be active. The life we have is not just any kind of life, but is the abundant, eternal  life! (John 10;10, 3:16)

What is the kind of “good works” God expects from us?

38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. (Acts 10, NIV)-emphasis added

With the anointing in Him, Jesus went around delivering people from their sins, demonic oppressions, sickness and even physical death!

As the apostles came out of Pentecost, they were doing similar things

Peter and John healed a man who was crippled and was begging (Acts 3)

God brings such people to us. are we able to minister to them?

17 This is what the LORD says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you
should go. 18 If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your righteousness like the waves of the sea. (Isaiah 48, NIV)

God Himself will equip you with gifts/talents. He will give you the tools

He will be with us and protect us. That is His promise (Luke 10:19)

Get little busy for the Lord. Once we are gone from here, we won’t have the chance to work for the Lord. Now is the time to do it!

Have a blessed day!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your saving grace and mercy which you showered upon me. Help me to be the tree that bears fruit for you, and to do the good you expect me to do. Anoint, equip and train me Lord. Amen
