Today: Knowing Christ, as we should!
Passage: Eph 1, Prov 2
15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[f] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. (Eph 1, NIV 84)
As weeks pass by and new weeks appear, we are closer to the day of the Lord
There are a few here in the US, who expect Jesus to come on a certain day this month; we know, it is against the scripture to predict such a day
In the verses above, Paul states that he started praying for the Ephesians, and is continuing to pray for them, that their spiritual eyes may be opened
As a man of God very busy in ministry and writing, Paul still found enough time to pray. He didn’t have excuses like us. Paul was never too busy to pray!
He knew what to pray about. His prayer was mostly about others and their spiritual needs. If Paul committed himself so much to prayer, what about us?
Somebody was saying in church: If we will commit ourselves to a steady prayer life and meditation of the word at least 15 minutes a day, we will see the difference! I agree with that
Paul’s prayer is for a very urgent need, which is true even for today. He wants the Ephesians to have the spirit of wisdom and revelation
That is the major problem with the Church today; leaders and believers lack it!
Wisdom and revelation knowledge will help us discern truths of the scripture as well as discern the various people we come across
When a person preaches stuff that does not come from his/her heart, when someone preaches what they don’t have/practice, we will be able to know that!
Such preaching will not touch anybody. Only that which comes from heart and life will touch people
The wisdom and revelation knowledge will help us know Christ better. Once we know Christ close enough, it will be impossible to stay away from Him!
Why we follow Christ at a distance, is because we never knew Him close enough!
Peter used to follow Christ at a “safe” distance; but after “Pentecost”, he never did that. He was very much with Christ/Holy Spirit after that
May God help you to know Him better; have a desire for that, day after day!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I am sorry for being ignorant about you and for ignoring you. Help me to know you better and closer day after day. Amen
Proverbs 2 (NIV 84)-emphasis added
1 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding,
3 and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
