Today: More than what we want; more than what we need
Passage: Eph 3
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. (Eph 3, NIV 84)
One day, Peter and John were walking to the temple, when they saw someone sitting outside and begging. He was asking for money. Even though he wanted money, he needed something else more than that. He needed healing!
1 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. 2 Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.
So Peter and John, instead of giving him what he wanted, gave him what he needed. The power of Jesus Christ manifested through them. The man was healed!
Many a time, we don’t get answers to our prayer because we ask God our wants, but He knows what we really need. So, we first understand God’s will and then pray. Read the word, before you pray!
When God gives, he gives without measure, and according to His riches.
6 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.
The more we are focused on “silver and gold”, the more “material minded” we are, the less spiritually powerful we will be
Another reason why we are not rich in the spiritual is because of “power and politics” struggle. We need to get out of that, to receive power from God
While Jesus was in His earthly body, many people wanted to see Him become a King or someone like that. But Jesus did not yield to any of them, nor did he wear even a “special dress” to avoid trouble. It was so difficult to identify Jesus from his disciples, so they had to use Iscariot to identify Jesus. Jesus was a “Brother” than a “Bishop” or someone like that
Many have titles, but no power. What people are looking for, is for men like Peter and John, who have the real power in them
We better cry and admit that the Church has put on a “style” of godliness, but is without true love, power and compassion
God is willing, ready and able to do “exceedingly abundant” than we ask or imagine
Are we willing to be what God wants us to be?
We may need to “empty” ourselves of certain things/attitudes first
