Being the “real you” in Christ

Welcome!

Today: Being the “real you” in Christ

Passage: 1 Peter 1

6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. (1 Peter 1, NIV84) –emphasis added

Martin Luther King was a man with a strong Christian belief who believed that injustice has no place in a country like America. He stood and fought for what he believed

The problem with most people today is that they would rather be copy-cats and do what most others do, instead of being themselves. Even while we know what is right, we are afraid of the consequences and reactions from others and we try to “save our face” instead of doing what is right. But there are just a few who want to do that which is right, regardless of what others would think of them

There is an “inertia” at work in most of us. We hesitate to get into action!

Gandhiji was another man who was inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ. He did what he felt right, and didn’t care what others would think of him

Mother Teresa also received the inspiration from the same source. When she saw the need, she responded to it the way she felt- that’s all she did.

Jesus is our perfect example. He saw the great need of salvation for us and He stepped down from His place and came down for us. He knew the cost. He suffered all of that and finally achieved His target. Jesus is the only person born of God’s seed in a human being and lived among us, died and resurrected, and never had another death.

In the verses we read above, Peter refers to sufferings of a Christian and the test of faith. Gold can survive a fire, but even that gold can be melted in high temperature. But then faith is compared to something much more precious than gold, which will stand any fiery trial. No one likes a test of their faith, but God does allow that, so that we will be qualified for heaven.

Christian life is living our tomorrow today. We always look ahead, not just on what we see now. When others see everything O.K, we try to see what God sees, and may find that everything is not O.K. We need that “prophetic” world view

All things are pointing towards our greatest hope, which is the coming of Christ

May God help you endure all that you are going through, because of that glorious hope!

Have a blessed day. Pray, read the word and worship God, more than ever before

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help to be myself as you want me to be, and see things the way you see them, so that I can respond to the various needs and situations in the right way. Get me out of that bad “inertia” and laziness. Amen

“It is much easier to be like someone else, than being yourself”
