Today: Open my eyes, Lord!

Passage: 2 Cor 4, Eph 1

4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (2 Cor 4:4, NIV 84)

18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. (Eph 1: 18-19, NIV 84)

Recently, someone was telling me about a person who made all the money he could, but finally lost his eye sight!

Of all the senses we have, sight is the most precious

Spiritual blindness is something that most people are unaware of, and which most people won’t admit even if they know

In the verses above, we see that spiritual blindness happens to both categories: those who are believers in God as well as those who are non-believers

Once Jesus healed a blind man, but he was not fully healed in the first instance; he was sincere enough to admit that he could only see people like trees. Jesus immediately corrected the situation

But there are many out there who did not wait for the second level. As soon as they got some vision, they got out of the O.T (operation theatre/table) and ran away. They are the ones creating so many problems in the churches

They need that second experience

In Romans 10, there is a familiar verse there, that says:

9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Rom 10:9, NIV84 )

Now, isn’t that cool? All you have to do is to just say “Jesus is Lord” and you are saved! Problem solved. Name written in Heaven!

I don’t think that is what that verse means. Being born again, is much more than that. It is a process of total transformation. The devil is so crafty that he does not want anybody to become that new creation in Christ (2 Cor 5:17)

In the days of the formation of the Church, if anyone publicly confessed Christ as their Lord/God, that could cost them their very life, just like what is going on in many parts of the world today. “Christ” was a name very much hated, and so was anybody who identified themselves with that name!

Being saved or born-again is something that transforms you completely. It is when your inner eyes get opened and stay opened for the rest of your life

A good number of Christians/believers read the Bible with their head and not their heart-I mean their spirit!

There are many people who have never personally accepted Christ, yet have written books on Christ, saying all the good about Christ

Jesus called us to become His followers/disciples

Satan has blinded the minds of people outside the church (that they will not know they need repentance and salvation) as well as those who are inside, so that they will not grasp the mysteries of the word of God!

Finally, there are churches that have gone blind!

See what Jesus says about the Church in Laodicea!

15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.(Rev 3: 15-18,NIV-emphasis added)

It is time to admit our blindness and come to God get the full deliverance

God bless you

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I pray that you will open my eyes fully so that I can understand your word as you want me to be, and that I can see myself as I am, in your sight. Help me to see others as you want me to see them. Amen

Open the eyes of my heart…
