Today: Priority #1

Passage: Mat 6: 31-34 NIV

31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (emphasis added)

God does not lie; His words are true

If we give priority to the things of God, we will not have to worry about many things we are worrying today

Most of us get one or two days off, in a week

We may plan so many things for that day, but not accomplish much, by the end of the day!

But here is what we can do; spent a little extra time- first thing in the morning, praying and reading the word

Spent a little extra time with the family, in prayer

I tell you, you will accomplish a lot more that day, than you ever thought you could!

When we put God first, He will help us

When we get someone for a help, we know how much it matters, in certain situations

When God comes to our help, it matters even more

He knows more than what we know, in any area. He will make you smarter than many others who know much more than what you know

Not because of our merit, but because of His grace!

But then, give God the credit

Our problem is that we want the credit

When we do something in unity with others, and if we are not worried about “who gets the credit?”, then we can accomplish much more

But if we are concerned about our own credit, we will only accomplish less

If we read Matthew chapter 6, it is very interesting what Jesus has to say:

3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 5“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. (Mt 6: 3-6, NIV)

In the physical world, we will do so much hard work, to learn something and to go for that which is more rewarding/in demand

But how much are we interested in growing spiritually?

Prayer and reading the word are two things that can help us grow spiritually

We don’t need any special gifts or talents to do these two things

We don’t mind spending a lot of time studying and reading things we need for our job, because that is money1

But the word of God is better than honey, and is better than money!

Finally, when all is said and done, what matters the most is not what job we were doing or how much we were making

When the books are opened, and as God reads the account of each of us, can we stand strong?

Put God first. He will make you first!

God bless

BG

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I believe your word that says: “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”. Many times, I failed in this one thing. Help me to always put you first, in my life. Amen
