Today: Precious than Gold!

Passage: 2 Tim 3:16-17 NIV

16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The word of God, is more precious than gold; gold cannot save our souls

Paul has contributed so much to the whole scripture

He is the author of more than a dozen books of the New Testament

By divine inspiration, he states that ALL scripture is God-breathed

The term sola scriptura, used by reformed theologians stands for scripture is God’s word and is without any error

The scripture (Bible) is fully inspired by God and is inerrant (without errors)

Some of us have seen how certain people of other religions come up with statements like “there are ……….errors in the Bible”

The Bible was written by human beings like you and me, who were committed to God and inspired by God. But it is God’s work, using His own creation

The irony is that there are a good number of Christians, who do not believe the Bible as God’s word

Inspired, inerrant and infallible is God’s word. But the illumination of God’s word does not come with human wisdom. God chose all types of people, regardless of their education, background or profession, and illuminated them with His word

He reveals the mysteries of the word to those that call upon Him

7No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. (1 Cor 2: 7-8, NIV)

The word of God is better understood with the heart, not head

The revelation through Holy Spirit is needed to understand the mysteries of the word (Eph 1:17-18)

The Holy Spirit reveals even the deep things of God’s word to us

10but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. (1 Cor 2: 10, NIV)

So, more than a commentary, we need the Holy Spirit, to study the scripture

There is nothing wrong in using study-guides; but our problem is that many of us don’t take time to even read the Bible

Once Paul was transformed, he spent three whole years, sitting in communion with God and learning from God, through divine revelation

How serious are we, about the word of God?

The word of God is infallible; each page in the Bible is true

5Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

6 Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar. (Prov 30:5-6, NIV-emphasis added)

30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless.
He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.

31 For who is God besides the LORD ? And who is the Rock except our God?

32 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. (Ps 18: 30-32, NIV-emphasis added)

Do you know that there are many in our Churches who don’t believe the whole Bible?

Our blessings through the word depend on how much of the word we believe and act upon

God does not force His word on anybody

When the Spirit came upon Peter and John, they spoke the word with authority; they were unschooled!

13When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. (Acts 4: 13, NIV)

They did not have pen and paper. But men like Paul and the David wrote so much, on skins and stuff like that, which we enjoy reading

What are we doing for God, with all these knowledge and skills we have, with all the computers and gadgets we have?

Reading? Writing? Do something for God!

God bless you

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for not believing that the whole scripture is divinely inspired, and for not really meditating the word. You have given me so much of skills and I am using it all for myself, very little for your glory. Help me to use my skills, talents and time for you. Amen
