Today: What is your choice?
Passage: 1 Kings 18: 20-21 NIV
20 So Ahab sent word throughout all Israel and assembled the prophets on Mount Carmel. 21 Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”
But the people said nothing.
Yesterday, I was attending the wake/viewing of a brother who died few days back
Among the few young people who stood up and spoke few words there, some were very touching. There is a reason for that
One of the young men quoted a verse from Jeremiah 29, verse 11
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (NIV)
Then, he sang a song that said, “God, the source of all blessings and all goodness..!”
What was even strange than that was that this young man and his brother lost their parents in a house fire, about a month back!
His dad was a Pastor, V.J Thomaskutty, and mother, Elamma
When they both died in that house fire at Houston during the early morning hours of Sunday, May 30, this uncle of theirs (58) was already on sick bed
The very foundations of hell shake to hear “God is good” coming from the mouth of someone who has gone through such a tragedy!
There was another young man, who said like this”
“You fathers, you are being called back home. But don’t worry; we have already taken the Bible in our hands. We will fight the good fight of faith, and hand this Bible over to our next generation”
That was challenging!
Apostle Paul wrote the letter to Philippians saying “do not worry about anything”, while he was in prison with chains binding him
The word of God cannot be bound with anything
The verses from 1 Kings, quoted at the beginning of today’s devotion, are the words of Prophet Elijah
Whenever King Ahab saw Elijah, he was troubled
For some reason, there are some who feel troubled or threatened, when they see some children of God
These people were asked, whether they would choose Jehovah, or Baal
Baal was the god for most people of the land
As always, people just kept quiet, to that question of Elijah
They wanted to say “Baal” because of the King, but they knew that Jehovah was the real God
It is easy, not to make a choice sometimes. Majority of people do not like to be committed to any one or anything
They want to take the path of least resistance
They are like, “If the king says worship Baal, we will do that. If he says otherwise, we will do that”
God likes people who dare to make a choice
What is our choice, in these troubling times?
Are we committed, or are we like most people who do not want to be committed to anything?
The only thing a good number of people are committed to, is to “enjoy your life to the fullest”
If you really want to enjoy your life, be committed to God, above all
He is the only, true source of all blessings
Commitment is costly, but rewarding
God bless you

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I choose you over anything else I have, this day. I decide to quit the wrong choices I made before, and I commit my life to you; you are the one who gave your life for me, and you deserve my commitment. Amen
