Today: Sin is the enemy, sinner a friend

Passage: Ps 55: 9-11 NIV

9 Confuse the wicked, O Lord, confound their speech, for I see violence and strife in the city.

10 Day and night they prowl about on its walls; malice and abuse are within it.

11 Destructive forces are at work in the city; threats and lies never leave its streets.

The psalmist is concerned about what’s going on in the city, and so is God

The city is full of resources; people love to go to the city for various things

The city is very populated because of job potential there

The city embraces different colors, cultures and castes

But there is also sin in the city

When people get used to sin, they no longer feel sin as sin

That is where the word of God becomes significant

The word of God is the standard regardless of circumstances or locations

What is sin according to the word of God is sin in the East as well as the west

I speak to some people who find it very difficult to accept certain things as sin

They live in a place where majority of the people are practicing certain things, including their spiritual leaders

So, they sincerely ask, “What is wrong in it?”

Divorce and remarriage is one aspect I hear a lot of questions about

It has become so common in certain parts of the world that ministers (Pastors) have started diluting the word of God to fit their circumstances and to justify the wrong things that they are doing

But that is a NO-NO!

God understands our circumstances

I know cases where children got married because of parent’s pressure and

they said “NO” to their spouse in the very first night, because they loved someone else

But in most cases of divorce we see around us, they were situations which could have been resolved. But the trend of the land was “Go for a change”. So people started changing marriages like changing clothes, and the church just kept quiet!

The woman in John chapter 4 (before she was transformed) is no longer a stranger in today’s (Christian) world!

The church is responsible for diluting the word and promoting sin (in the church)

When leaders have the guts to say “NO” to things that are sinful, God will be delighted. That is the rule of the (God’s) house

We need to be concerned about what is going on around us, and in the city

Jesus loved the city, just as he loved the village

Many of Apostle Paul’s ministries had been in cities

We need to see what is going on with the person sitting next to us, in the church, as a minister was recently encouraging us to do

Many a time, we try to ignore people because we think it will be too much of a burden if we get to know what they are going through

If Christ had thought the same about us, where could we have been today?

Next time you visit that person/house, pray a sincere prayer for them

Pray for the peace of the city!

God bless you

BG

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for ignoring that which should have been considered, and for considering that which was to be ignored (sin). Open my eyes so that I may clearly see the needs of others. Amen
