Today: One word from the Lord
Passage: Luke 7: 7-8 NIV
But say the word, and my servant will be healed. 8For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
The centurion mentioned here, was pleading to Jesus to heal his servant
He cared so much for a man working for Him!
Anybody might care for somebody closely related to them, but this leader was unique
He had a hundred people under him, and when one of his own servants/soldiers became sick, he kept everything else aside and walked all the way to Jesus
This man’s faith was commended by Jesus (v.9). But there were many other great qualities in Him
In the beginning of that chapter (Luke 7) we can see people giving a good testimony about him. He was a man of a good, great heart. This servant was one of his best. He had very personal relationship with those who worked for him. He didn’t see people like robots or like trees!
He was also a very good giver. He had built a synagogue for them
But then, he believed in Jesus, unlike many other “synagogue builders”
(Luke 7: 2-7, NIV)
[2There a centurion's servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, "This man deserves to have you do this, 5because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue." 6So Jesus went with them.
He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: "Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. 7That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.]
There are many people out there, doing “great” things for the Lord, having no relationship with the Lord at all!
But this man, the Centurion was a man who loved God and a man of great humility
He says that he was not worthy enough for Jesus to come into his house
He also stated in verse 8, that he was a man under authority
One of the reasons we don’t see our faith working, could be the lack of that humility. The fruit of the spirit is very essential for God to work
Now, he believed very strongly that one word from Jesus could heal his servant-just one word
He knew that this Jesus created the heavens and the earth, and everything in it
He did not under-estimate the power of God
Whatever be the situation we are going through, can we believe that one word from Jesus can take care of it all?
He can stop the oil spill in the gulf of Mexico. One word is all we need. What “BP” cannot do, He can do it
But there has to be an admission and a submission
“Yes we can”, through Jesus. All things are possible for those who believe in God with All their heart. God said the following to Solomon, King of Israel:
[13 "When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7: 13-14 NIV-emphasis added)]
God can heal our land as well as water!
Let us humble ourselves and ask God to send a word on the situations we are facing-individually as well as collectively
God has an answer to every situation we face
May the Lord’s name be blessed
BG
Prayer: Lord Jesus, one word from you is enough to take care of my situation. I pray that you will reveal to me anything in me that is a hindrance for thy blessing, so that I can take care of it; Amen.
