Today: Don’t take it for granted!

Passage: 1 Cor 10: 2-5 NIV

2They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. 3They all ate the same spiritual food 4and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. 5Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert. (emphasis added)

The scripture above speaks in reference to the Israelites, the people of God

They were all baptized (V2) in the cloud and the sea

Afterwards, they had their “communion” where they ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink

They celebrated the pass-over that symbolized their redemption through the saving work of Jesus Christ on the cross, which happened about 1500 years later

But the 5th verse says,

5Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert.

What percentage of the people in your church do you think, will be caught up at the coming of Christ?

Some people might say, we are now living in the period of grace

I agree. But Paul did not make a mistake by mentioning this O.T fact here, in his letter to the church at Corinth

Sin is still sin

As we go down to verse 6, 11-12, this is what we see: (emphasis added)

6Now these things occurred as examples[a] to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did.

11These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. 12So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!

Apostle Paul says, he mentioned these Old Testament incidents for a reason

First, they are examples for us

Second, they are a warning!

The church today is so much into the world that they don’t want to hear any of these words-especially words like “warning”, “discipline” or “submission”

They want to hear only “abundance, blessings and grace (without the truth part in it)”

That is why, only a select few, even from the church can expect to be caught up in His second coming

As the church is in its “final lap”, ready for a take-off, much care is needed

The other day, there was a plane crash in Mangalore, India, killing nearly all of the passengers, about 160 of them

Even while I was in Mangalore about 17 years back, I used to hear people saying that it was one of the most dangerous airports, for landing

It is so much on the top of a hill that a minor mistake could cause a big crash as this

And finally, what they have been talking for years happened!

Are we ignoring the “warnings” in our life?

God help us to take care of such things, before the worst happens!

God bless

BG

Prayer: Lord, help me to be serious about the things of God, and not to take anything for granted. Help me to resolve all those which are to be resolved in my life, and lead a life pleasing to you. Amen.
