Today: Lord, if it’s you (3)
Passage: Mt 14:28-30 NIV
28“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
29“Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” (emphasis added)
Looking at the same passage on the third day in a row, we are learning something
Today, we will focus on Peter, as a student of Jesus
In this whole incident of Peter walking on water, what we see more than Peter doing something “miraculous”, is his dependence on Christ
Have you seen people trusting people without a second thought?
Lot of people have been deceived, because they blindly trusted someone else, with their life, money or time
But Peter did not make a mistake by trusting Jesus
When he was about to sink, Jesus saved Peter, instead of allowing him to sink down in those waters
These days, many leaders would love to see “Peters” sinking!
Learning is what disciples were doing, with Jesus
Learning is a humbling experience
By being willing to learn, you are admitting that you are ignorant of certain things, and that the teacher knows more than you and that you really have a need to learn
Many people are stuck in their same old job and pay, because they were not willing to learn something new! Many have even lost jobs because of that
If we are willing to learn, it can open up so many avenues we never knew, were there!
Peter was one of those disciples who always acknowledged the divinity of Jesus
In one instance, he said, “You are the Christ, the son of the living God”
In another instance:
68Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.” (John 6: 68 – NIV)
Yet another time, he called Jesus, “My Lord and my God”
Peter had that unique revelation about Jesus Christ, which others in the team probably didn’t have!
That’s why he was the only one who dared to step out of his boat, and step upon that water
You will not experience the miraculous power of God, unless you are willing to step out of the boat
Many of us are comfortable long enough, warming up those same chairs
It is time to step out of our “comfort zones” if we want to see the miracles of God happening in our lives
If we are not willing to try something new, there will not be any progress or promotion in our life
Once we sense the call of Jesus, we need to step out like Peter
It is water, you are going to step into. It is not the kind of solid ground you were stepping on so far
There are scary things out there; but you are learning!
Jesus is standing right there, on that water
If someone told Peter he should not have gone for all this trouble, Peter would have said, “It was better for me to learn that way, than to sit in the boat and learn nothing.”
Who other than Peter ever walked on water, among the twelve?
No body else!
If you fall, He will take care of you! So, make those baby steps. That’s how you learn to walk
God bless

It is important to start somewhere. We have to overcome the starting problem. That is a problem; most of us are struggling with it!
Once, the disciples failed in their task and they came to Jesus asking why they couldn’t do what they were expected (not supposed) to do
Jesus told them, “because of your unbelief”
They got the point. They had no more questions
It is time to start. All questions, to Jesus
