Today: Come!

Passage: Mt 14:28-30 NIV

28“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”  (emphasis added)

The words of Jesus are powerful

When he says, “Come”, he means it

He knows about the path that we take and the troubles along the road

Jesus never promised us a comfortable journey, but a safe ending

He is watching us every step of our way to him

When the disciples faced the storm, Jesus was praying

He sensed what they were facing, and he came to them instantly

Jesus is with us, when we struggle with our difficulties and problems

Actually those are the times when he is closest to us!

There were several instances when Jesus told the disciples, “Come”

Once he made breakfast for them and called them like a mother calling her children, “Come and eat”

Another time, he told the people, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened…” (Mat.11: 28)

That sounds like a shepherd’s voice, than that of a King

But there are times when he spoke about his kingdom as well

Here, in America, we cannot just go to anybody without telling them in advance

But with Jesus, we can approach him any time. The invitation is open

In fact, the problem is that we don’t go to him that often

Among the twelve, it was only Peter who asked Jesus, if he can go to him

All that Peter wanted was a word from Jesus

“tell me to come to you on the water.”

When we trust God for what is “impossible” in the physical, we are trusting him for what is possible in the spiritual

Once we heard “Come” from Jesus, we cannot hang around any longer

We need to make our first step immediately

Every time Jesus tells us something, we need more than just common sense, to obey; that is what is called faith

Moving the stone at the tomb of Lazarus who was dead for four days, giving five loafs of bread and two fish into the hands of Jesus to feed five thousand, touching the garment of Jesus in a busy crowd while rejected by all doctors, bringing sick man on his bed and letting him down through the roof……

All these needed something more than just common sense

That is why some one has called faith as the sixth sense

If we want to get worldly respect and God’s favor together, it may be difficult

We need to let go what is in the hand, to hold on to God

I said, we need to let go what is in the hand, to hold on to God

Someone in that boat might have told Peter, “Peter; calm down. What do you think you are doing? Don’t try to act too smart!”

After the whole incident, at least a few would have been talking about Peter’s sinking, instead of talking about his walking on the water

You think people are going to talk about your standing and walking?

No! be prepared to see them talking about your “falling”

But that is part of the package.

As long as we know that we were doing the right thing, all that matters is what God has to say, not people

God is saying, “Come”

Are we telling others, “Come”?

Can they come to us with their problems and issues? Are we ready for them?

God bless

If someone told Peter he should not have gone for all this trouble, Peter would have said, “It was better for me to learn that way, than to sit in the boat and learn nothing.”

Who other than Peter ever walked on water, among the twelve?

No body else!

If you fall, He will take care of you! So, make those baby steps. That’s how you learn to walk!
